Thriller 25 Album CoverThriller 25

Thriller 25 is a 25th anniversary special edition reissue of the Michael Jackson album Thriller, the world's best selling album. The prospect of a "second chapter" to Thriller was first publicly discussed on Access Hollywood in late 2006. Jackson said he would discuss the idea with collaborator will.i.am. It was released in Australia on February 8, 2008, then internationally on February 11, 2008 and the following day in the United States.

Thriller 25 was released by Sony BMG's re-issue division, Legacy Recordings. In the United Kingdom, the BBFC gave it a '15' certificate because it included the video for "Thriller". It is the first Jackson album with an age certificate. Along with the original material, the reissue contained remixes, new material, a DVD and collaborations with several contemporary artists.

Two singles, "The Girl Is Mine 2008" and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008" were released from the album to moderate success and a number of the other remixes charted, despite no physical release. Thriller 25 was a commercial success, selling 3 million copies worldwide in its 12 weeks and was generally well received among critics, despite their view that the new material was not as inspiring as the original.

Invincible Album CoverInvincible

Invincible was released on October 2001. It was Jackson's first full album of only all-new material since 1991's Dangerous. The cover art of this album was a simple design of just Michael's face. It was available in the standard silver edition, or four limited colours: red, green, orange, and blue.

The album included guests performances by Carlos Santana, Brandy and posthumous appearances by The Notorious B.I.G. and Rod Serling. On Invincible, Michael Jackson expanded his vocal abilities as well as his instrumental involvement on the album, playing most of the instruments and performing much of the programming tasks in collaboration with producers Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley, and Dr. Freeze.

Just before the release of Invincible, Jackson informed then Sony Music Entertainment head, Tommy Mottola, that he was not going to renew his contract, signed in 1991, which was about to expire in terms of supplying the label with albums of full-new material for release through Epic Records/Sony Music Entertainment. By 2002, sales and interest in the album had decreased rapidly, which prompted Mottola to cancel all single releases, video shootings and promotions concerning the Invincible album. Due to this abrupt canceling, Jackson made allegations about Sony not supporting its African American artists. In addition, reportedly racist remarks were made by Sony Entertainment's head, Tommy Mottola. As a result Jackson and other label artists claimed he was a racist who used black artists for his own personal gain. Jackson also insisted that Mottola called Irv Gotti a "fat nigger". Sony issued a statement saying the allegations were untrue since Motolla used to be married to pop star Mariah Carey, who is of Venezuelan and African-American descent, and was currently married with Mexican pop star Thalía.

There were seven singles and videos that Sony and Jackson wanted to release from Invincible. Initially, Jackson wanted to release "Unbreakable" as the debut single from the album, partnered with a 20-minute music video. However, Sony wanted Jackson to release "You Rock My World" instead of "Unbreakable" due to shorter production time of the video accompanying the single. "You Rock My World" was the only worldwide single release from Invincible and would reach the top ten position in 22 countries. Jackson had also planned to release "The Lost Children", "Break of Dawn", "Butterflies", "Speechless", "Cry" and "Whatever Happens" (with Carlos Santana).

In 2002, Jackson announced that Invincible would be his last studio album with Epic Records.

All songs produced by Michael Jackson, Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley, Andraeo "Fanatic" Heard, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, R. Kelly, Dr. Freeze.

HIStory Past Present And Future Book I Album CoverHIStory Past, Present And Future Book I

HIStory - Past, Present and Future, Book I is a tripple album (one half greatest hits, one half studio album) released in June of 1995 by the Epic Records division of Sony BMG.

(HIStory Begins) contains fifteen hit singles from the past fifteen plus years of his career to this point (which was re-released in late 2001 as an only-compilation project, entitled Greatest Hits - HIStory Volume I). The track list included fourteen U.S. Top 10 singles (nine of which were number-one hits) plus the worldwide top 5 hit "Heal the World".
The second disc, (HIStory Continues) contains fifteen previously unreleased recordings, five of which were released as singles.

(HIStory Continues) comprises new material. Six singles, and two promotional singles were released from HIStory; "Scream", "You Are Not Alone", "Earth Song", "This Time Around", "They Don't Care About Us" and "Stranger in Moscow". "This Time Around" was released as a radio only single, and "Earth Song", "They Don't Care About Us" and "Stranger in Moscow" were less successful within the United States, but were successful internationally; all three peaking within the top ten in multiple countries. As part of promotion for the song's, music video's were released, which have become influential on other artist's material.

Initial sales were strong, with the album debuting at #1 in most countries around the world. In the U.S., it outsold Dangerous's first weeks total with 391,000 copies sold as compared to 326,500. In the UK, it sold 100,000 in its first 2 days making it at that time, the fastest-selling album ever[citation needed]. It did not keep up these initial good sales figures however and only remained at #1 in the U.S. for 2 weeks and in the UK for 1 week. It remained at the top of other album charts around the world for an average of 2 weeks.

Sales in the UK picked up during the huge success of the second single "You Are Not Alone" and particularly the only-European hit "Earth Song". Sales by the end of the year were just over 1 million copies making it triple platinum. The other successful HIStory singles and the tour helped HIStory to go onto sell over 1.5 million copies during its promotional period. This was not as good as Dangerous but in revenue terms much higher due to HIStory's price. In fact, HIStory was the second highest-grossing album during 1995 in the UK.

The Original Soul Of Michael Jackson Album CoverThe Original Soul Of Michael Jackson

The Original Soul of Michael Jackson is a compilation of songs by Michael Jackson, recorded early in his solo career in the early 1970s and released in 1988.

While the album claims to 'contains music never before released', the only new song available was a re-dubbed cover of Edwin Starr's 1970 hit "Twenty-Five Miles", sung by the Jackson Five and solely credited to Michael.

Some songs were newly edited on the album, with a newly dubbed version of "Dancing Machine". Ain't No Sunshine were also slightly different in the vocals and a modern drum machine were added to Twenty-Five Miles.

"Melodie" was planned for a single in an effort to promote the record in the US, but was scrapped for a promo-only single "Twenty-Five Miles"/"Up On The Housetop".

All songs produced by Hal Davis.

Bad Album CoverBad

Bad is an album of recorded music by pop music icon Michael Jackson, released in 1987. After the monumental success of Thriller, Jackson and co-producer/collaborator Quincy Jones produced a slicker funk/pop confection. Bad is currently certified at 8x Platinum by the RIAA in the United States, and worldwide has sold an estimated 32 million copies. In addition it achieved 5 #1 singles in the U.S., a world record which has never been broken.

Rolling Stone stated that "even without a milestone recording like "Billie Jean", Bad is still a better record than Thriller." The magazine further went on to say that the "filler" content in Bad - including songs such as "Speed Demon", "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" - is written by Jackson himself, making Bad "richer, sexier and better than Thriller's forgettable's." Although the album did not meet the sales of his previous album,Thriller , it has been viewed as a commercial and critical success.

Jackson set another record with this album, becoming the first (and currently, only) artist to have five songs to hit #1 from one album.
