Forever, Michael Album CoverForever, Michael

Forever, Michael was the fourth album in American pop and R&B singer Michael Jackson's solo career and was Jackson's final contractual studio album as a soloist in Motown Records. Released in January 1975, Jackson was now sixteen years old and in full tenor at this point in his career.

Around this time, The Jackson 5 had experienced a rebirth as one of the pioneering disco/funk groups, due to the success of their 1974 single "Dancing Machine". That song saw the next-to-youngest Jackson showcasing his skills bringing in a new dance move called "The Robot". As Michael's dance led to a cultural revolution, he was still under the throes of Motown having songs written for him. There was also a delay for this album originally thought to be recorded in mid 1974 was pushed back because of the success of the Jackson Five's hit "Dancing Machine". The mood in Forever, Michael is musically different from that of Music and Me, and featured the songs "Just a Little Bit of You", Jackson's biggest solo hit in three years, "We're Almost There", "I'll Come Home to You" and the memorable ballad "One Day in Your Life".

This is the only Michael Jackson studio album that doesn't share a name with one of the songs on the album.

The album peaked at no. 10 R&B, and no.101 on Billboard's Pop Albums Chart.

All songs produced by Berry Gordy.

Music & Me Album CoverMusic & Me

The album was released during a difficult period for Jackson, who was 14 years old at the time, as he was experiencing vocal changes and facing a changing music landscape. Having been influenced by fellow Motown label mates Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, Jackson wanted to include his own compositions on the album, but Motown refused to allow this.

Despite featuring a photo of Jackson strumming an acoustic guitar on the album cover, he does not actually play an instrument on the album. Jackson would later express his frustrations about this to his father, Joe Jackson, who would later work to terminate Michael and his brother's contract with Motown, and negotiate lucrative contracts for them with Epic Records.

Since Jackson was on a world tour with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5, promotion on this album was limited. The Stevie Wonder cover, "With a Child's Heart", was released as a single in the United States, where it reached. Two additional songs ("Music and Me" and "Morning Glow") were released as singles in the UK, but they failed to chart. Another track, "Too Young", was released as a single in Italy, while the track "Happy" was a single in Brazil and "Doggin' Around" was a limited-release single in Holland. Ten years after this album's release, "Happy" was released as a single in the UK to promote Motown's 18 Greatest Hits compilation album.

The album peaked at no.14 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and no. 50 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart.

Ben Album CoverBen

Ben was the second full-length solo album by teenage pop-soul music phenomenon Michael Jackson. Released in August 1972, seven months after his auspicious debut as a soloist, Got to Be There, the album showcased a Jackson in vocal and artistic growth. A number of the songs on the album are ballads, a genre which was rare in the main Jackson 5 repertoire, but would become a staple of Michael Jackson's over the course of his four-decade solo career.

The album's title track helped separate Jackson from his family and his pop music contemporaries convincing an audience he could belt out a ballad, even though the song was dedicated to a rat, that was eulogized in the 1972 film that gives the album its name. However, no one noticed, as the song became the first of Jackson's thirteen #1 solo hit singles, and garnered both a Golden Globe award win and an Academy Award nomination.

The album peaked at no.5 Pop and no. 4 R&B when it was released.

All songs produced by The Corporation, Jerry Marcellino, Mel Larson, Hal Davis, Bobby Taylor and Berry Gordy.
